New in the queue

Now that the vest is finished, I'm very pleased. It was worth all the self-imposed problems. I sewed the buttons on tonight and tried it on. Great!!! Can't wait for it to get cooler.
It's time to see what's next. In honor of the Olympics, I'll be working on the Lopi cardigan for a WIP and the Kori for a new project. I should have the pastel cotton cardigan done by the time the games begin.
September is reserved for St. Brigid. I ordered some yarn from the shop--Rowan Scottish Tweed DK in color 00019 Peat. It's a lovely brown, which will not be too dark or too light. I love tweed yarn for the depth of color. So many to choose from. This yarn is a perfect substitute for the Alice Starmore yarn, so I limited my choices to two. The neutral won, as the Herring had more blue than I thought.

Tick-tock, switch-swatch

Now I have the back done on the vest! I have a project swatched for the Ravelympics and it'll be mindless enough when I watch swimming. It's the Kori vest from Berroco booklet #268, Something About Stripes. The shop had two bags of Noro Kureyon on sale, soooo I got 8 skeins. First, I found the corrections on Berroco's website. The squares are fun to knit and will be portable. The colors in the skein looked garish in spots, but knitted up they are really pretty--just like the gardens on the Bodensee.
Yesterday was such a nice day I sat on the deck in the shade and knitted before Jim came home. Eevee joined me. The photos came out nice and the sky with the pristine white clouds was lovely. If it's still nice this afternoon, I'll have to fix a little pot of tea and do the same while I work on the vest. It should go smoothly since the back is finished--one cable panel per side!
As you can see, the German Club t-shirt design is different. I think the Ampelmanner are a perfect touch.

Tick-tock

Well, here we are again! I thought this was a decent photo of the back cable work. I'm almost ready to split for the back and fronts. Just out of the photo is the huge ball of yarn from before. The morning light is so blue that it's difficult to capture the beautiful red color of this yarn. It's a warm red, and really lovely. I'll probably wait and buy the buttons in Germany. I can tell a difference in the cabling with the different sized needles. It's much more defined. I swatched the cotton for the little cardigan I'm knitting for the trip. I started to cast on for the bottom. That'll be a nice NBK (no brain knit/ing) to work on when I need a break from the clock vest. Maybe I should rename it the ticking time bomb!
Speaking of Germany...I'm reading part of the Lord's Prayer in German on Sunday. Cool!
I'm so glad it's Friday! Tomorrow I'm meeting a friend and we're going to a festival. She's taking a knitting class and I'm going to wander around and visit the sheep, the vendors, maybe I'll get to test drive a wheel again! It's supposed to rain, but that's okay. The buildings are fairly close together and it'll be fun to see all the fiber, etc.

A fresh coat of snow and a new start

I decided to post of photo of the vest--what's left of the old and the new beginning. I rip to a point and knit from the old. After all these years I still don't own a ball winder--I know, I know--one of these days I'll get one. I didn't set up the shot; I just opened the knitting bag and let the contents burst out. (Sigh)
Anyway, I'm not posting a photo of the snow. I have enough photos of that this year. It was in the upper 70s earlier this week. Tomorrow we play bells in church, so I can wear black comfortably. However, I will change before class. Black is so funereal. We look good when performing, though.
Ben and I went to the musical last night. "A" is first chair violin, and she was playing in the pit. The kids did a great job with Beauty and the Beast. We know another cast member (one of the silly girls in the musical). Ben saw lots of people he knew. That red letter jacket really stands out. The other school's color is blue.

Progress

As you can see, I'm slowly but surely making progress. I posted the picture of the latest t-shirt design on the top left side of the blog. I don't know what color, yet. The order is going through DECA so we can get it for a good price. This one was easy and went really fast. I don't know what the saying is on the back, something about predicting the last three depressions. Anyway, I liked doing that for the class.
Ben and I will go to the musical at the (rival) high school. "A" plays violin in the orchestra, and we know one of the actresses. I have to pick up the tickets today. When I was in high school, I liked orchestra better than band. It was fun to play in the pit for the musicals.
Yesterday was gorgeous, and I worked in the yard most of the day. I can feel it in my wrists. Bell practice was a bear and I'm pretty sore today. I'm grateful I don't play any lower! We'll play in church on Sunday. The piece we commissioned for the director is coming along. The first part is adagio, and the second part is (for lack of a better word) FAST.
Oh, I hear rain. It's supposed to be 67 today and 46 tomorrow. Dang! If I had the vest done I could wear it!

Seeing red, but not that cardigan!

Well, I bit the bullet and frogged back the shoulders and collar of the red cardigan. I didn't think it was worth it. Now I'm back to searching through my books for a suitable substitute for the yarn. It's gorgeous Skye Tweed by Classic Elite, which I believe they don't make anymore...too bad, so sad.
Sock Monkey and I found a pattern that will do the yarn justice. It's the Clock Vest on pages 13-19 in Folk Vests, by Cheryl Oberle. I'm now to the first row of the chart on the center back. So far, so good. A friend knitted this and it is really pretty. This will satisfy my cable lust and still have some easy knitting between motifs.
It's snowing like mad outside. I had a spring dress on yesterday. I wore the Circles and Bobbles to work today. Wow, every time I look up, the snowfall is really getting heavy.
